The difference between the iphone se and. Apple iPhone SE (2017): design, specs, features and release date

28.07.2017

How long have you had this device?

Do you use it until now? If not, why did you break up with him?

I use it, I do not plan to part, I hope that if the situation is successful, it will last a couple of years.

How did you get this device? What were the criteria for the selection? Where and how much was purchased?

The purchase was the result of yet another long and painful suffering on the topic of "the optimal set of gadgets." This year I have to move to study in relatively warm European regions for a couple of years, from which there are several consequences. It is possible to carry Note 5 in a trouser pocket in the warm season (see the story), but this process does not cause delight, I wanted something smaller. An iPad Pro with a stylus was purchased for lecture notes, followed by a desire to unify the zoo of ecosystems and return to the iPhone. The budget allowed me to take everything, including the base 7 Plus, but as usual, the toad stepped in.

"Pros" (at least, and) did not want to take, because:
a) expensive;
b) and so there is an iPad;
c) they are healthy (unreasonably, in my opinion, Note 5 is smaller with a larger diagonal);
d) the only type of crime common in the future place of residence is pickpocketing, so I didn't really want to buy an expensive device with the risk of losing it.

The usual seven for its current 36-37 thousand looked quite a good option, but the toad seemed like too much of a waste. As a result, at the final stage, the choice was between different modifications, released for third world countries by a 32 GB six for 24 thousand and a restored 6 Plus for 28-29. The latter still seems to me to be a pretty good option with excellent battery life, good screen, camera, etc. But great.

I looked at for a long time and at first thought about modifications for 64 and 128 GB, but then at some point Apple dropped prices to 19990 throughout the market (and now in some places of the PCT you can find thousands more for one and a half cheaper) and pay extra for larger volumes memory under a hundred dollars seemed to me unreasonable. After reading the purchase reviews on w3bsit3-dns.com, I decided to simplify my task, went to offline stores to make sure that there was no yellowness of the screen. I haven't bought phones in this way for a hundred years, the sensations are unusual ☺.

It is worth noting here that in the comments to the reviews, there are almost everywhere people who are horrified by the very thought that this design is 5 years old. I would like to ask: "So what?" He, I don’t know, doesn’t go out because of this and doesn’t fall apart? Now everyone has hit the curved sidewalls, it looks very beautiful on professional filming and in the shop window, but only then everyone puts this beauty in covers, otherwise it's scary. I looked at, yes, he is handsome, but to the point of this beauty.

What do you like? Strengths, dignity.

Size and design. And again size 10. The phone fits perfectly in any pocket, including a shirt chest pocket. Doesn't interfere. Not felt. Very lightweight. Does not slip out of your hands. Nice little metal bar. You take it in your hands - you sweep a thing, that's all.

Almost everywhere, the interface is pretty well adapted to the small screen size. The font is small only in Safari in vertical mode.

One of the key moments in my suffering with the choice was the moment when I realized that I could blindly type text on the standard keyboard, and the output turns out to be almost perfect, but on Samsung, where the buttons are larger by virtue of their size and are all stuffed machine learning and artificial intelligence Google keyboard, forever shoals. I don't know how, but Apple keyboard in most cases, it corrects typos very well and selects the necessary replacement options.

You can forget about the suffering of the kind "used maps - turn off GPS" and generally forget about closing applications, turning on power saving, thoughtful digging "which application should I allow", etc., in order to live until the evening (conditionally from 8 am to 11 pm). This is with quite active use in the early days, numerous walks with maps, etc.

Oddly enough, the front camera turned out to be quite bearable. Yes, the resolution is small, but there is less hellish distortion of geometry, and the colors are not bad.

The fingerprint sensor performs much better than previous Android devices.

The power is more than enough and with a high degree of probability will be enough for another couple of years, given that playing heavy games on such a screen is not a task for the faint of heart, and you should not expect any virtual reality with such a resolution. But at the same time, from the point of view of any synthetic benchmarks in terms of a ruble of money, so far, plus / minus destroys almost everything that is on the market.

What's not to like? Weaknesses, disadvantages.

The camera is inferior in dark performance compared to both the Nexus 5X and Note 5. They have a physically larger matrix, and the second also has an optical stabilizer, in low light conditions this makes a fundamental difference in quality. But for this I was quite ready. Another question is that, for my taste, the quality of color rendition is better than both of the devices listed above. And I don't believe in harsh post-processing of photos from a phone, pulling RAW "s in Lightroom", etc. - it kills the whole idea of mobile photography.

What are you missing in it?

From realistic wishlist - quick launch of the camera by double-clicking a button, as on the Nexus 5X and Samsung. In summer it is not very important, although it would still be more convenient, but in winter it allows you not to take your gloves off. Otherwise, everything fits well with the concept of reasonable sufficiency. Of the slightly less realistic ones, it would be great to get moisture protection, but, probably, this is no longer so easy to do on the current chassis.

What features do you use frequently? What features do you use occasionally? What functions are you not using at all?

Few dialers, mail, quite a few browsers and instant messengers, all sorts of alarms, calendars, calculators. Maps as needed, all sorts of transport applications. Camera, Yandex.Music. A little bit of reading, there's an iPad for that. While Siri is not enough, it's hard for me to get used to talking to the phone. Maybe over time I'll buy a watch, I'll get used to it.

Did the device have to be repaired?

Not. But there is one important plus, the screen and glass are two different parts, respectively, the maintainability is higher, the cost is lower. Apple, however, began to seem to be repairing screens in an official manner, but in any case it is small, but extra. plus in favor of a conservative design.

What kind of troubles happened with the device? What glitches have you noticed?

Nothing yet.

Try comparing this device with other models you have used.

It's hard to compare with now, it was already a year and a half or two ago. It did not slow down then, so there is no fundamental difference in this part, the camera has definitely become better and the battery life is much more pleasant. With the current price difference of three thousand (especially taking into account the difference of 16 GB versus 32 for SE, the fingerprint sensor is worse, and much more so. On iPhone, I have not yet had a single problem with triggering, there was a constant war with Samsung "attach the finger is correct. "But, we must give Note 5 and Samsung their due - with the seventh Android, battery life has become better, and there are fewer problems with the fingerprint.

What else can you say?

In my opinion, the iPad 2017 is two excellent devices from Apple in terms of the combination of price and features. As I said, I don’t understand the moaning about design reuse. Who cares how old this design is if you like it and are happy with it? Especially if it allows you to make the price much lower.

It must be understood that it is not a universal device and, for obvious reasons, is not suitable for everyone. But if this size / format suits you, then this is a great option for your money. In fact, the only one in its niche. With this in mind, 10 points.

Like many of Apple's announcements over the past few years, the announcement of the iPhone SE has become both expected and unexpected. Expected - in terms of a general idea: everyone was ready for Apple to release a cheaper smartphone with a small display diagonal. The surprise was that the body of the novelty turned out to be exactly identical to the iPhone 5s, and the hardware characteristics, on the contrary, were inherited from the iPhone 6s, the current flagship of Apple.

The table clearly shows that, with the exception of the screen, dimensions and battery capacity, the characteristics of the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE are identical. But there is no option with 128 GB of internal memory, which, of course, is a minus (especially considering the possibility of shooting in 4K). In turn, the dimensions and screen make the new product akin to the iPhone 5s, but all other parameters have become much more advanced. Even the battery capacity has increased, although the case is the same.

When it comes to comparison with the Android rival, things are not so simple here. In almost all specifications, Apple devices lag behind, but as we have seen many times, this may not be directly reflected in actual performance and other user qualities. So let's proceed directly to testing.

Packaging and equipment

The packaging of the iPhone SE is much closer to the iPhone 6s than to the iPhone 5s. This is evidenced by the overall light color scheme and the picture on the smartphone screen.

The complete set of Apple smartphones has not contained any surprises for a long time. The novelty is no exception. Here are EarPods nested in a nice box, flyers, a charger (5V 1A), a Lightning cable, stickers and a key to eject the SIM cradle.

Design

Now let's look at the design of the iPhone SE itself. The first emotion when you take it out of the box: my God, how small and, at the same time, plump!

In fact, the dimensions of the novelty are exactly the same as those of the iPhone 5s. Down to a millimeter. However, in the two and a half years that have passed since the release of the iPhone 5s, we have become accustomed to being thinner and, of course, much larger screen. It is not for nothing that Sony's Compact model has a 4.6-inch diagonal. And the Chinese have already stopped releasing smartphones less. So four inches looks like a frank throwback.

But this is exactly the case when the opinion of technologists does not coincide with the opinion of many ordinary users, among whom the iPhone 5s is still popular. And while some of them have this due solely to financial reasons, others simply prefer compact models. The iPhone SE is focused on them.

As a matter of fact, there are only three design differences from the iPhone 5s. The first is the new color Rose Gold. We have seen this color in all the latest generation of Apple's mobile novelties, but now it is available on a compact smartphone. The girls will surely be delighted. Not only is it beautiful in itself, it also emphasizes that you do not have some old iPhone 5s, but the very novelty. That being said, three other color options (gold, dark gray and silver) are also available.

The second design element that has undergone changes compared to the iPhone 5s is the branded bull's-eye. Now it is not pressed into the metal of the surface, but is made of glossy metal as an independent block, inserted into the body and slightly recessed - like in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It looks exquisite, but, in essence, this is such a trifle that you can hardly pick out with your eyes, unless you specifically peer.

Finally, the last detail to avoid confusing the iPhone SE with the iPhone 5s is the letters SE right below the word iPhone on the back of the device. However, obviously, this in no way affects the perception of design. The rest of the smartphones are absolutely identical: the material, location and shape of the buttons, connectors - everything is exactly like the iPhone 5s. As a plus, note that although the camera is much better here, it does not protrude above the body at all (as it is implemented in all iPhones with a six in the name).

An interesting question is which version of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner is installed in the smartphone. As we remember, the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus debuted a new version scanner that works faster and more accurately. The owners of these models know that it is enough just to quickly touch your finger and immediately pull it back, so that the smartphone has time to recognize the owner. Since Apple does not provide details on the Touch ID version in the iPhone SE, we tested this with a simple comparison - pressing the Home button on the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE at the same time. The result is unambiguous: the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone SE is slower. That is, apparently, here it is the same as in the iPhone 5s.

In general, the design of the iPhone SE can be called a time-tested classic (although it looks somewhat archaic against the background of modern devices, even in the middle segment). Two cosmetic innovations - a new color and a differently executed logo - do not affect the overall impression. From the point of view of appearance, we are just facing the iPhone 5s. No more and no less, no better and no worse.

Screen

Parameters iPhone screen SE does not differ from those of the iPhone 5s: 4-inch diagonal, IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1136 × 640. By modern standards, it is very small: both the diagonal and the resolution (it is difficult to find less than 720p even in the mid-budget segment).

It is also important that the screen of the iPhone SE does not support 3D Touch technology.

However, the technical characteristics and the presence or absence of additional technologies are just the tip of the iceberg. Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the "Projectors and TV" section, conducted a comprehensive examination of the quality of the iPhone SE screen.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than that of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here's a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left - Nexus 7, on the right - Apple iPhone SE, then they can be distinguished by their size):

The screen of the Apple iPhone SE is slightly darker (the brightness in the photos is 104 versus 110 for the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the Apple iPhone SE screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with greatly different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (effective, but still not better than the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of regular glass.

With manual brightness control and with the display of the white field on the whole screen, the maximum brightness value was about 610 cd / m², the minimum - 6 cd / m². The maximum brightness is very high and, given the excellent anti-glare properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors will be ensured. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by the light sensor (located to the left of the front speaker). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider - the user can try to set the desired brightness level for the current conditions, but we cannot predict what brightness will be in other conditions and simply when changing and returning the ambient light level back. If nothing is touched, then in complete darkness, the automatic brightness adjustment function reduces the brightness to 6 cd / m2 (too dark), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 400 lux), the brightness rises to 100-140 cd / m2 (normal), in in very bright environments (equivalent to a clear day outdoors, but no direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or slightly more) is set to 500 cd / m² (this is sufficient). We were more satisfied with the variant obtained after several attempts to correct the brightness in various conditions, while for the three conditions indicated above, we got 8, 115 and 600 cd / m². It turns out that the auto-brightness function works more or less adequately, and there is some opportunity to adjust the nature of the brightness change to the user's requirements, although there are not obvious features in its work. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flickering (or rather, at the minimum brightness there are very narrow peaks with a frequency of 50 Hz, but the flicker was still not noticed even with great effort).

This smartphone uses an IPS-type matrix. The micrographs show the typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen and without tint inversion. For comparison, we present photographs in which the screens of the Apple iPhone SE and Nexus 7 display the same images, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m2 (along the white field in full screen, on the Apple iPhone SE this corresponds to 60% brightness at using third-party programs), and the color balance on the camera is forcibly switched to 6500 K. Perpendicular to the screens, a white field:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And the test picture:

Color balance differs slightly, color saturation is normal. Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens and the contrast remained at a high level. And a white box:

The brightness at an angle at the screens decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in exposure), but in the case of the Apple iPhone SE, the drop in brightness is slightly less. The black field, when deviated along the diagonal, is lightened weakly and acquires a light red-violet tint. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is about the same!):

And from a different angle:

When viewed from a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is good:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is normal - about 760: 1. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 20 ms (11 ms on + 9 ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes 25 ms in total. The gamma curve, plotted using 32 points with equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal a blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 1.93, which is below the standard value of 2.2, so the image is slightly lightened. At the same time, the real gamma curve deviates little from the power dependence:

The color gamut is almost equal to sRGB:

Apparently, the matrix filters mix the components to each other to a moderate extent. The spectra confirm this:

As a result, the colors visually have natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is slightly higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the spectrum of the absolute black body (ΔE) is less than 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE vary little from shade to shade - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of the color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

Like in, the iPhone SE has a feature Night shift, which makes the picture warmer at night (how much warmer - the user indicates). The graphs above show the values obtained with the middle position of the parameter slider Color temperature(by the way, correct - "color temperature"), when shifting all the way to Warmer and to Colder(charts are signed in the appropriate way). Yes, the color temperature drops, which is what is required. For a description of why such a correction might be useful, see the referenced iPad Pro 9.7 article. In any case, when having fun with a mobile device at night, it is better to lower the screen brightness to a minimum, but still comfortable level, and only then, to calm your own paranoia, turn the screen yellow by setting Night shift.

Let's summarize. The screen has a very high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-reflective properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems, even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is also permissible to use a mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works more or less adequately. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, no air gap in the layers of the screen and no flicker, high stability of black to deviation from perpendicular to the plane of the screen, good uniformity of the black field, as well as sRGB color gamut and good color balance. There are no significant shortcomings. It is arguably the best display among small screen smartphones at the moment.

Performance and heating

The iPhone SE runs on the same Apple A9 SoC as the iPhone 6s. This means that there is also an Apple M9 coprocessor, which provides support for the voice unlock function (with the command “Hey Siri!”).

It is important that the CPU frequency of the iPhone SE is not reduced. We described the SoC details in the article about the iPhone 6s, so we will not repeat ourselves and go straight to testing. In addition to the main hero of testing, we included the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 5s in the table, since our main tasks are to understand whether there are any differences in performance of the iPhone SE in comparison with other smartphones on Apple A9, as well as how much faster the new product is than iPhone 5s. As for the comparison with Android rivals, then, as we found out earlier, Apple A9 is still the leader, so there is simply no point in such a comparison in the case of the iPhone SE.

Let's start with browser benchmarks: SunSpider 1.0.2, Octane Benchmark, Kraken Benchmark, and JetStream. We used the Safari browser everywhere.

The result is predictable: we see an approximate parity of the iPhone SE and iPhone 6s Plus, as well as a huge superiority (three to four times) over the iPhone 5s. We emphasize that different versions of operating systems and browsers could give some error, so the slight difference between the two smartphones on Apple A9 should not be confusing.

Now let's see how the iPhone SE performs in Geekbench 3 and AnTuTu 6 - multi-platform benchmarks. Alas, we do not have results for the iPhone 5s, because at the time when we had it for testing, AnTuTu did not support iOS at all, and Geekbench was available in previous version... Therefore, you will have to be content with the results of the latest smartphones.

Here is a stranger result: the slight, but still present, superiority of the iPhone SE over the iPhone 6s Plus in Geekbench, as well as, on the contrary, the lag in AnTuTu, draws attention.

The last group of benchmarks is dedicated to GPU performance testing. We used 3DMark, GFXBench Metal (in the case of the iPhone 5s, the results are from a simple GFXBench) and Basemark Metal.

Recall that Offscreen tests are displaying a 1080p picture regardless of the actual screen resolution. And Onscreen tests are displaying an image in the resolution that matches the device's screen resolution. That is, the Offscreen tests are indicative of the abstract performance of the SoC, and the Onscreen tests are indicative of the comfort of the game on a specific device.

(Apple A9)
Apple iPhone 6s Plus
(Apple A9)
Apple iPhone 5s
(Apple A7)
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 3.1 (Onscreen) 58.0 fps 27.9 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 3.1 (1080p Offscreen) 25.9 fps 28.0 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan (Onscreen) 59.4 fps 39.9 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan (1080p Offscreen) 38.9 fps 40.4 fps
GFXBenchmark T-Rex (Onscreen) 59.7 fps 59.7 fps 25 fps
GFXBenchmark T-Rex (1080p Offscreen) 74.1 fps 81.0 fps 27 fps

As we can see, even the most resource-intensive 3D scenes do not cause any problems for the iPhone SE. Here, of course, it's not only the SoC, but also the low screen resolution. Hence the difference with the iPhone 6s Plus in Onscreen modes. Curiously, in Offscreen mode, the larger model is slightly superior to the compact newcomer. But the user doesn't care about that. The main thing for him is that any games on the iPhone SE will just fly.

Next test: 3DMark. Here we are interested in the Sling Shot Extreme and Ice Storm Unlimited subtests.

The significant superiority of the iPhone 6s Plus over the iPhone SE in the most severe Sling Shot Extreme test looks rather strange. It would be logical to assume that the GPU of the cheaper iPhone runs at a reduced frequency. And this looks like a completely logical decision, since at a significantly lower screen resolution, the load on the GPU becomes lower.

Finally - Basemark Metal.

And here is a similar picture, which reinforces our assumption made above. But despite the small loss of the iPhone 6s in points, the iPhone SE showed significantly higher frames per second during the test - from 38 to 45, while the iPhone 6s Plus barely jumped over the border of 30 fps. Therefore, even a game of this level will not be a problem for the iPhone SE.

One more thing to note: during testing in Basemark Metal, the iPhone SE got very hot. Below is a thermal image of the rear surface taken after two consecutive runs (approximately 10 minutes of operation) of the Basemark Metal test:

It can be seen that the heating is localized in the upper right part of the device, which, apparently, corresponds to the location of the SoC microcircuit. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 44 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), this is already very noticeable.

The iPhone 6s Plus has significantly less heating in the same test (more precisely, it is localized in one place, so the smartphone can be comfortably held in your hands). Therefore, although the performance of the iPhone SE is more than enough for any games, and will be enough for another two years, playing really resource-intensive applications may not be entirely comfortable due to the high heating.

Cameras

The main camera of the iPhone SE in terms of parameters is fully consistent iPhone camera 6s. We decided to check if the photo capabilities of the iPhone SE are really not inferior to the current Apple flagship! The examination was carried out by Anton Soloviev.

Like the iPhone 6s, the iPhone SE can shoot 4K video. And the quality of daytime shooting is very good. With night shooting, things are, of course, worse, but still it's not entirely horrible.

Night shooting 3840 × 2160, 29.97 fps, AVC MPEG-4 [email protected], 52.7 Mbps AAC LC 87 kbps mono

Here is a freeze frame from the first video taken during the day (you can click on a screenshot in its original resolution). And it even shows the number of a passing car, not to mention the details in the background!

As a minus, we note the lack of optical stabilization (it is still only in the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus), as well as the fact that the front camera of the iPhone SE has a resolution of only 1.2 megapixels and matches the quality of the iPhone 5s.

Autonomous work

Although the iPhone SE has a larger battery than the iPhone 5s, it is still inferior to the iPhone 6s and, even more so, the 6s Plus.

However, since the iPhone SE has a lower screen resolution and a smaller screen area, the battery life of the iPhone SE is approximately identical to the iPhone 6s. That is, with everyday rather active use, the device will have to be recharged every day, with moderately active use there is a chance that by the end of the day there will still be some charge left.

conclusions

The iPhone SE is arguably the most boring Apple smartphone in both a good and a bad way. There is no innovation here - neither in terms of design, nor in terms of features and hardware platform. In addition, there is nothing new here at all: it is just a hybrid of previously released devices - iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s. From the first they took the design, screen, fingerprint sensor and front camera, from the second - SoC, RAM, communication capabilities and the main camera. Well, they added a new color - Rose Gold.

However, for those who are not buying innovations, but a device for everyday use, the iPhone SE may be the optimal choice, in a good predictable way. In the sense that when you buy this smartphone, you know exactly what you will get in the end. There are no pitfalls here, no surprises. Except that the overheating of the device in the most difficult 3D tests upset us a little, but, in fairness, we note that these tests, in principle, would not have gone well on the iPhone 5s. So do not want to overheat - do not load the iPhone SE with games of this level (although they do not exist yet, the benchmark developers are ahead of the game developers).

And the main question that you need to answer to yourself before buying - are you ready to use a smartphone with a small (by today's standards) screen? Some will say: definitely not - let it be at least a super-flagship inside. Obviously, the iPhone SE won't work for these users. And someone will say: yes, I have always dreamed of a compact flagship! It is for such people that the iPhone SE is made. Considering that the price of the iPhone SE is 37,990 rubles for the 16GB version, while the iPhone 6s with the same storage capacity will cost 19,000 more (a difference of one and a half times!), Such an offer seems really attractive. For comparison, the official Sony store sells the Xperia Z5 Compact for the same 37,990 rubles, despite the fact that its performance is lower, the screen is worse (see our testing), the design is less attractive (the body is noticeably thicker, plastic is used as the material, not metal). So fans of compact smartphones, and everyone who, in principle, does not mind a small screen should pay close attention to the iPhone SE.

In conclusion, we suggest watching our video review of the Apple iPhone SE smartphone:

What will the iPhone SE 2 be like? We told all the available details.

The iPhone SE 2 is Apple's long-awaited and truly coveted smartphone that has yet to be announced. On October 3, 2019 it became known that iPhone SE 2 will still be released! The launch of the smartphone was confirmed by the most authoritative analyst from the Apple world, Min-Chi Kuo. In this article, we have collected all the reliable information about the iPhone SE 2 - no unverified rumors, only leaks from the most trusted sources.

Note: We will be updating this theme with fresh reliable leaks until the official release of the iPhone SE 2. Stay tuned for updates!

iPhone SE 2 - coming or not?

Let's start with the main question that most fans of compact smartphones are interested in. Is Apple really developing the iPhone SE 2 and getting ready to release it?

Over the past few years, there have been a huge number of rumors about the iPhone SE 2. Various sources, which are now not heard, predicted the release of the iPhone SE 2 at different times. But the smartphone still didn't come out.

However, on October 3, 2019, there was a reliable confirmation of the soon release of the iPhone SE 2. The most respected Apple analyst, Min-Chi Kuo, said the iPhone SE 2 will launch in early 2020.

Design

According to Kuo, The iPhone SE 2 will be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8. The similarity will be great, since Apple will actually create a new smartphone based on the components of the iPhone 8. This means that the iPhone SE 2 will receive a body with slightly rounded corners and edges.

Whether the back surface will be glass (like the iPhone 8) or aluminum, the specialist did not specify. Note that if the iPhone SE 2 has a glass body, the device will receive support for wireless charging.

The smartphone will be released in three colors: space gray, silver and red.

Display

The iPhone SE 2 won't be as compact as its 4-inch predecessor. According to Ming-Chi Kuo's data, the smartphone will be equipped with a 4.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 750 × 1334 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16: 9. This is expected to be the exact same display as the iPhone 8, with relatively wide bezels around the perimeter.

Characteristics

For the performance of the iPhone SE 2 will be responsible for the system on the Apple A13 Bionic processor. This is the flagship chip used in smartphones. iPhone 11 , iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max... Thus, the inexpensive iPhone SE will have the most powerful processor among mobile devices... This will allow him to freely run any application, including games from Apple Arcade.

The real performance of the A13 Bionic processor is known. In live tests, the processor outperforms all current Qualcomm chips. In synthesic tests, the processor also has no equal. In the Geekbench benchmark, the A13 Bionic chip scores 5472 points in single-core mode and 13,769 points in multi-core mode. It is noteworthy that the yet unannounced flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor has the worst performance.

The A13 Bionic processor is powered by the third generation Neural Engine. Thereby iPhone SE 2 should include Night Mode and a dedicated Deep Fusion shooting mode, exclusive to iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The amount of RAM of the smartphone will be 3 GB, the amount of storage - 32 or 128 GB, depending on the configuration.

Battery

The exact battery capacity of the iPhone SE is still unknown. However, there are assumptions that should be close to reality. The iPhone SE 2 will be similar to the iPhone 8 in many ways, including the location of the components. This means that the smartphone will receive a battery similar in capacity to the iPhone 8. Expected that the battery capacity of the iPhone SE will be about 1821 mAh.

Touch ID or Face ID?

iPhone SE 2 will receive a touch-sensitive Home button with a built-in second-generation Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The smartphone will not have Face ID scanning function.

IPhone SE 2 cameras

In his report, Min-Chi Kuo did not specify what cameras the new iPhone SE 2 will have. In this regard, there is only speculation regarding the cameras of Apple's next budget smartphone. They are based on information that the iPhone SE 2 will be very similar to the iPhone 8.

The new iPhone SE 2 is likely to borrow from the iPhone 8 and camera. In this case, the main camera of the smartphone will be single with a resolution of 12 megapixels (f / 1.8 aperture). The front camera of the smartphone will receive a resolution of 7 megapixels (f / 2.2 aperture).

IPhone SE 2 price

According to reports, the iPhone SE 2 will be priced similar to the original iPhone SE - $ 399 for the base version with 32GB of storage and $ 499 for the model with 128GB of storage. In Russia, the iPhone SE 2 will be priced at 35,990 rubles. and 44,990 rubles. respectively. October 14 the cost of iPhone SE 2 confirmed analyst Min-Chi Kuo.

  • The price of the iPhone SE 2 is from 35,990 rubles.

Should we wait for the iPhone SE 2?

After rumors about the iPhone SE 2 began to appear more and more often, another important question arose before many fans of Apple technology. FROM Is it time to wait for the iPhone SE 2 and not buy other iPhone models yet? However, this modification of the question comes to us even more often - "Is it worth buying the iPhone SE or is it better to wait for the iPhone SE 2?"

It is important to understand that initially iPhone SE 2 will definitely not be budget, remember this. First, the new iPhone SE 2 will sell for over 35 thousand rubles. The price of the smartphone will drop to more pleasant 20-25 thousand rubles only a year after the start of sales.

When iPhone SE 2 comes out

Let's draw a conclusion from all of the above. iPhone SE 2 will be presented at the March Apple presentations 2020.

And now to the news and materials, of which there have been many over the past seven days. Let's start with fresh information about the upcoming Apple flagship, the so-called iPhone 8. A week ago, the smartphone was predicted to be far from the most natural location of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner - on the back surface. Fortunately, these rumors were refuted, and not only with words.

Insider Veniamin Geskin distinguished himself first, who published iPhone 8 mockup photos he received from a Foxconn employee. The images confirmed most of the previous leaks, but only pleasant ones. The iPhone 8 mockup has a bezel-less display, dual vertical cameras and an elongated power button.

The mockup hints at a lot of features for the anniversary iPhone, but most importantly, there is nothing on the back other than a dual vertical camera (still protruding from the body). This means that Apple engineers have managed to place the Touch ID fingerprint scanner elsewhere. The layout does not show its exact location, but gives hints. So, lengthening the Power button could well be needed to accommodate that very scanner in it. According to Sony's experience of installing a fingerprint scanner in the side power button for a long time, this solution will be quite successful.

Confirmed such plans by Apple and an anonymous "leak" in the Chinese social network Weibo. A person who said that he has connections with employees of key production partners of Apple, published on the open spaces of the social network schematic illustration of iPhone 8... It does not tell anything new - the smartphone has an elongated shape and a vertical dual camera. However, the Touch ID scanner on the back cover was not noticed, which is additional confirmation of Apple's refusal from such a controversial decision. Note that the owners of the new flagship Samsung, Galaxy S8, called the placement of the fingerprint scanner on the back cover, right next to the camera lens, a bad engineering decision of the South Korean company. Apple better not do that.

Touch ID did not show up on the back of the iPhone 8 and on the smartphone case. Photo which leaked to the Internet. The snapshot further convinced everyone of Apple's intentions to equip the anniversary iPhone with a vertical dual camera and an extended power button. These features, most likely, are really worth the wait. This is hinted at by the experience of previous years, in which the main chips new iPhones thanks to leaks, they became known long before the presentation.

The aforementioned Veniamin Geskin was later noted for another "drain". Still referring to a Foxconn employee, he published a schematic component image anniversary iPhone. According to the illustration, the iPhone 8 will have a dual L-shaped battery that will newest smartphone Apple is the most autonomous on the market. The image shows that a significant portion of the space inside the iPhone 8 is taken up by batteries. The smartphone has two of them, as other analysts predicted before. It is assumed that the combined capacity of the batteries will be 2700 mAh.

Concluding on the iPhone 8, we want to recommend chic concept Apple's next flagship. The designers of the ConceptsiPhone resource showed how the iPhone 8 (aka iPhone X or iPhone Edition) can look in white. It turned out great, everyone is waiting for such an iPhone.

Last week Apple released two beta versions of iOS 10.3.2 at once - fourth and fifth on the account. Both updates brought with them exclusively bug fixes, especially iOS 10.3.2 beta 4 ( what's new). True, all the bugs removed were minor - there were no serious problems, to the delight of users, in iOS 10.3 and iOS 10.3.1.

Meanwhile, users found in iOS 10 another strange bug... It doesn't take long to exploit a new bug. All that is needed is to open Control Center, and then simultaneously touch three buttons: Night Shift, AirDrop and one of the three presented in the bottom row (calculator, camera or timer). Immediately after that, the iPhone or iPad, even running the latest beta versions of iOS 10.3.2, will freeze. Only a forced reboot will help bring the device back to life. It is noteworthy that the bug was not fixed in the latest beta versions of iOS 10.3.2. It is likely that she will get to the final version of the system.

The lull in the jailbreak world has been broken. Chinese hacker group Pangu, known for hacking several versions of iOS, managed to implement jailbreak iOS 10.3.1 on iPhone 7. The developers showed the result of their work at the conference on mobile security, which was held in China. Best of all, the hackers have clarified that they have plans to release a publicly available jailbreak tool. In other words, iPhone and iPad users may soon be able to “jailbreak” their devices again.

Before the conference WWDC 2017 a little over a month remains, and there is very little verified information about iOS 11. Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine decided not to rely on insiders, and he himself disclosed one of the main innovations iOS 11. He said that the application "Music" and the music service Apple Music in iOS 11 are waiting for major changes. In particular, it will feature more videos - original TV shows and various programs from Apple and its partners.

Apple services are evolving now. April 25 carriers Visa cards Sberbank got the opportunity use the Apple Pay payment service. The influx of new users of Apple Pay is expected to be serious, since earlier Sberbank had only support for Mastercard cards. Learn more about what Apple Pay is, how to set up the service and what devices it supports in this article .

In the future, Apple Pay will seriously expand its functionality. A new leak indicated that the company is in talks with banks and payment systems to launch its own

Today's material will be devoted entirely to the device from Apple, which is called the iPhone SE. To be more precise, we will figure out whether it is worth buying this model in 2017.

The phone was released relatively recently, but due to the fact that this is far from a flagship, many are beginning to doubt. Everything is quite logical, because such a feeling arises before any big purchase.

I will try to paint you everything as it really is, and I think after reading the material, you can finally decide.

Why is the iPhone SE good?

I think it's worth starting with the fact that the iPhone SE was released in March 2016, which, in fact, not so long ago. It was produced mostly for the Chinese market. Let's go through its characteristics.

Appearance. Outwardly, we still have the same iPhone 5S and on the street you can understand that a person has SE only in two cases: the SE inscription on the back cover (if there is no case) and the pink color of the case.

I am leading to the fact that the design of the phone is not for everybody. For some, it seems already quite outdated, but the other half claims that this is the best design ever and nothing has been better than it so far.

I’ll just say that the phone looks very modern and if you walk down the street with this particular model, no one will think that you are some kind of old thing.

In terms of color schemes, I think it is clear that we have four options: Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and Space Gray. I think everyone can find something special just for themselves.

If you are reading this material, then you are a fan of compact smartphones and a 4-inch screen will be enough for you. I myself use 5S and there is nothing critical yet.

Performance. If you can still say something about the appearance, then in terms of performance, everything is just perfect for us and you will enjoy its speed of work.

After all, the filling has completely passed from the flagship iPhone 6S, which means the Apple A9 processor with 1.8 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. With iOS, these options are just perfect.

This all goodness will be enough for you for the next 2-3 years. So by buying this smartphone, you get stable operation of applications and games.

Camera and battery. I'll start with the battery, and it's a little bigger here than in the 5S. This is understandable, because the filling has become more resource-demanding.

The battery capacity is 1642 mAh and this will be enough for a full working day of active use. You don't have to worry about this part either.

With the camera, the situation is slightly different. There are no basic questions at all, and here all the same 12 MP as in 6S. There is no stabilization, so just normal pictures.

From the front, everything is worse, and here we have only 1.2 MP. In general, the pictures will be good only with normal lighting; in all other situations, one should not give high hopes.

Other functions and features. If you are a fan of modern technologies, then you definitely should not wait for chips like 3D Touch. Whatever one may say, they made a very budget option.

This is also indicated by the fingerprint scanner. There is also the first version of Touch ID, although in practice you will not notice the difference in speed.

Should you buy an iPhone SE in 2017?

Now let's move on to the most interesting part and I will tell the final conclusion whether it is worth buying the iPhone SE. I will tell you purely my opinion, and you already see for yourself whether to follow it or not.

First of all, I can say one thing about the girls. It became very difficult for them with modern shovels and there are not so many normal compact smartphones today.

The iPhone SE is just the perfect solution if you're worried about dropping the same iPhone 7 PLUS. Believe me, you won't lose much in terms of performance.

From this we can conclude that, first of all, the smartphone is suitable for those who like compactness. Not everyone needs a huge screen today, and that's a fact.

As I already said, the relevance of the gadget will continue for the next 2 or 3 years. Do not think that you will buy it and next year you will have to buy something new.

If you like the smartphone and the characteristics suit you perfectly, then of course we take it and don't even think about it. The price compared to the flagships is even nothing.

conclusions

That's basically all I wanted to say about the iPhone SE and whether it's worth taking it for 2017. I hope my article can somehow help you with a solution.

By purchasing this device, you will not get the most top-end technologies. But I guarantee you that you can enjoy the magic of Apple and that you will be able to work comfortably with the gadget.
